Biography

Robert Green joined the Law Department of The Travelers Corporation from private practice. He served in various capacities in the Law Department, with responsibilities which included managing the Corporate Division which organized, acquired and qualified insurance companies and non-financial entities, and assured regulatory compliance with state and federal agencies, including Insurance Departments, the Federal Trade Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission. He also managed the Litigation Division, with responsibility for all litigation affecting The Travelers Corporation or any of its subsidiaries. He served on the Board of Directors of The Massachusetts Company; Bankers and Shippers Insurance Company and other subsidiaries.

He was appointed Senior Vice President of The Special Liability Group (SLG), which had management and financial responsibility for all of Travelers’ claims and litigation involving environmental, asbestos and cumulative injury claims. SLG also managed the run-off of various discontinued lines, including Travelers’ excess and surplus insurance, assumed reinsurance and surety businesses. He retired from The Travelers in 1996.

Mr. Green served as a Connecticut State Trial Referee and was a member of the American Corporate Counsel Association, the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, the Association of Life Insurance Counsel, the Public Safety and Justice Committee of the Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce, and the Hartford Legal Aid and Defender Program.

He received a B.A. degree from Yale University and an L.L.B. from Columbia Law School. He is a member of the American and Connecticut Bar Associations.

He is an ARIAS-U.S. Certified Arbitrator and a Certified Umpire under the new certification requirements.
