BiographyMr. Hawksworth began his career in June of 1957 at the Continental Casualty Company in Chicago. He progressed rapidly from a desk underwriter to the position of Regional Underwriting manager. In 1970 he was elected an underwriting officer of the CNA /INSURANCE group.In 1977 he resigned his positions at CNA to join The Mercantile and General Reinsurance Company of America where he held various management positions and in 1987 became the CEO. In 1983, M&G America assumed the direction of Toa-Re/ America the American subsidiary of the Toa Reinsurance Company and also held the positions of Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of that company. He retired from these Companies in 1993. Shortly thereafter he became the Vice- Chairman of Willis Faber North America, part of the Willis Group. He held this position until he retired again in 1996. Since then he has been deeply involved in consultancy, expert witness and arbitration work. In 1997 he became a certified arbitrator by ARIAS-US and is also listed as a qualified ARIAS-US Umpire. In his career Mr. Hawksworth has been active in Industry affairs. In 1989 he was elected to the Chairmanship of the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA). He was also instrumental in the creation of the Brokers and Reinsurance Markets Association (BRMA) and served as the first Chairman of its Education Committee. He served on the committee for the creation of the Associate in Reinsurance (ARE) designation of the Insurance Institutes and also served as Trustee of the Institutes. In addition he has been a Trustee of the National Association of Insurance Women (NAIW) Education Foundation as well as Trustee of his Alma Mater, Wabash College from which he received the Alumni Award of Merit. Mr. Hawksworth received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wabash College in 1956 after which he attended the University of Chicago School of Business and pursued post graduate studies.
