Registration for the waiting list is open. Credit card will not be charged.ARIAS·U.S. will be conducting the next Arbitrator Training Workshop on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at the Tarrytown House Estate & Conference Center in Tarrytown, New York (website) from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. This program is specifically designed for new arbitrators. The First Quarter 2004 issue of the Quarterly includes photos and a description of a previous workshop at Tarrytown House. The ProgramThe format of the program has been structured so that all attendees will have the opportunity to participate on a panel during a hands-on mock arbitration. Panel members will be presented with arguments by participants from one of several law firms. They will then deliberate "in camera." Before and after the mock sessions, topical discussions will be addressed on what to do when first contacted for an arbitration, guidelines on how to deal with conflicts, disclosure, discovery issues, and the preparation of a final award. Experienced arbitrators will instruct, observe, and provide helpful feedback on how to handle various issues. The Tuesday program schedule is as follows:
This course applies toward ARIAS·U.S. certification requirements. Due to the program format, enrollment in this workshop is limited to 27 panel participants. Initially, registration will be limited to ARIAS·U.S. members who have not previously attended an ARIAS intensive arbitrator training workshop. RegistrationRegistration requests will be accepted only through this website, using a credit card, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 and ending when all positions have been filled. Although you will receive an immediate acknowledgement of your registration request, final confirmations will not automatically be sent. The registration system will be closed after 33 requests have been received, to allow for a small waiting list. After membership and eligibility have been confirmed for the 27 positions, notification will be sent by email regarding status. Placement will be given in the order registration requests are received. If you are not able to register online at that time, please ask someone to register for you, using your name, address, and credit card. The security code (3 or 4 digits located on the card) will be required. We hope that every new workshop candidate who wishes to attend will be able to do so. If there are still openings by January 18 at 10:00 a.m., a new registration period will begin. From that time, those members who have previously attended a workshop will also be allowed to register until all openings are filled and a waiting list has been created. Credit cards will not be charged until placement is confirmed. Costs and AccommodationsFood, facilities, and training for the entire program will be provided for a fee that is all-inclusive. For a payment of $595 (including taxes), all workshop costs, overnight lodging, and food expenses are covered. Only transportation costs (air, car, and/or taxi) and incidentals need to be handled separately. The fee includes the reception and dinner, as well as breakfast and lunch on Tuesday, refreshment breaks during the day, and a single overnight room. Your hotel reservation will be made by ARIAS after confirmation is sent to you. This workshop provides hands-on training, interaction, and practical experience in the arbitration process.
