Biography
With a distinguished career that spans nearly four decades, Spiro K. Bantis has a flair for managing and resolving complex insurance and reinsurance disputes, tackling claims for both domestic U.S. and Lloyd’s markets. Certified by ARIAS•U.S., Spiro is a go-to arbitrator who demonstrates the core principles and skills that are essential for parties involved in a dispute. Spiro also devotes a significant portion of his practice to providing expert commentary in matters involving insurance and reinsurance issues. He is a trusted advisor to insurers, reinsurers, and brokers, offering sage counsel on everything from claims to innovative product development and navigating the labyrinth of regulatory affairs. At London Fischer, Spiro wears multiple hats, chairing two of the firm's most vital practice groups: Insurance and Reinsurance Coverage and Insurance and Regulatory Advisory. He's also a key member of the Cybersecurity—Insurance Coverage, Response, and Defense group. Before joining London Fischer in 2004, Spiro held the role of Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Gulf Insurance Group (a Travelers member) in the bustling heart of New York City. His responsibilities ranged from managing legal affairs to orchestrating corporate mergers and acquisitions, drafting insurance contracts, managing all coverage litigation and arbitrations, and overseeing international operations, including those at Lloyd's. Before he joined Gulf in 1989, Spiro was an associate at another prominent New York-based law firm, representing insurers and reinsurers in various coverage and litigation matters. But Spiro isn't just about law; he's a community leader. He serves on the Board of Directors of Atrium Insurance Corporation, a reinsurer of mortgage insurance based in New Jersey. Spiro's commitment to the industry extends to his role on the Board of the Insurance Federation of New York, along with his active involvement in various community and professional boards and committees. Because of his deep insurance and reinsurance knowledge, Spiro is often asked to share his insights at industry conferences including those sponsored by ARIAS•U.S., ExecuSummit, the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS), and the Mutual Funds/Investment Management industry. He also holds Martindale-Hubbell’s highest AV Preeminent rating, a mark of excellence trusted worldwide by those seeking top-tier legal services.
