Larry Schiffer launched his independent legal and consulting practice on August 1, 2020, after 38 years with boutique and global law firms.  He practices complex commercial, insurance, and reinsurance litigation, arbitration, and mediation. He also advises on coverage, insurance insolvency, and contract wording issues for a variety of insurance and reinsurance relationships.  Larry serves as an expert witness, mediator and arbitrator, and consults on insurance and reinsurance issues.

He is the Editor of the ARIAS•U.S. Quarterly, past Chair and current member of the ARIAS•U.S. Technology Committee, a member of the ARIAS•U.S. Ethics Discussion Committee and a recipient of the ARIAS•U.S. Dick Kennedy Award.  Larry is a member of the ABA’s Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section, where he is Chair of the Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Committee, and past Chair of the Excess, Reinsurance & Surplus Lines Committee. He also was Chair of the New York State Bar Association Committee on Association Insurance Programs for nine years.

Larry is an Expert Commentator on Reinsurance for IRMI.com and editor and co-author of The Top 50+ Reinsurance Cases Every Risk Professional Should Know.  He also co-authored the Reinsurance chapter in the NYSBA’s Insurance Law Practice treatise. Larry authors the Schiffer on Re-Insurance Blog and moderates of the Reinsurance Disputes Group on LinkedIn. He has been recognized by Chambers USA, Expert Guides to the World’s Leading Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyers, The International Who’s Who of Insurance & Reinsurance Lawyers, The Legal 500, U.S. News and World Report: Best Lawyers’ in America, and Super Lawyers.

He received his J.D. from Albany Law School, where he graduated cum laude, was a member of the Albany Law Review and the Justinian Society, and received his B.A. magna cum laude from Brooklyn College. He serves as a mediator for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, and for the New York Supreme Court Commercial Division.
