John Andrews has over 43 years of experience as an attorney, of which over 29 have been in the reinsurance business. He commenced his reinsurance career in 1977 as General Counsel of Prudential Reinsurance Company. He provided legal advice regarding all aspects of the domestic and international reinsurance operations of Prudential Re, as well as its retrocessional facility, surplus lines insurance subsidiary and three New York Insurance Exchange syndicates. He also supervised reinsurance and insurance litigation and arbitrations. In 1982, he became head of the Claim Department of Prudential Re and managed treaty, facultative and primary insurance claims, including numerous toxic tort claims. Mr. Andrews began his legal career at Dewey Ballantine in 1966 and joined the Law Department of Prudential Insurance Company in 1970.
In 1985, Mr. Andrews joined the American Can Company (later Primerica Corporation) as General Counsel of the financial services group, which was made up of a number of life and health insurance subsidiaries. He became the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Primerica in 1987 and was involved in the acquisition of financial services companies, the supervision of the legal departments in numerous insurance and financial services subsidiaries, and the eventual sale of Primerica in December 1988.
Mr. Andrews became Senior Vice President and General Counsel of SCOR Reinsurance Company in 1989. He supervised reinsurance and insurance litigation and arbitrations, and advised on legal issues arising out of the reinsurance and licensed and surplus lines insurance operations. He also oversaw the human resources and administration functions of SCOR Re for a period of time.
After retiring early from SCOR Re in mid-2004, Mr. Andrews has provided litigation support as a consultant, in addition to serving as an arbitrator.
Mr. Andrews graduated from Holy Cross College and Syracuse Law School.
