Biography

David W. Ichel, FCIArb, serves as an arbitrator, mediator and court-appointed special master for complex commercial disputes, including insurance and reinsurance disputes. He was a long-time partner at Simpson Thacher and Bartlett LLP ( New York), where he was one of the founders of Simpson Thacher’s insurance practice and litigated complex insurance, reinsurance, insurer insolvency and many other large financial services, commercial and product liability cases for 37 years.

In addition to the ARIAS-US panel, David is a member of the AAA National Commercial, ICDR and Mediation Rosters, the ICC-USCIB panel of arbitrators, Panel of Distinguished Neutrals of the CPR Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution and the Commercial Mediation and Arbitration Panel of Federal Arbitration Inc. (FedArb). He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

David teaches Complex Civil Litigation at Duke Law School, where he has taught since 2011, and teaches Large Scale Litigation at the University of Miami School of Law, where he has taught since 2018.

David has served as a Chair and party appointed arbitrator in ICC, AAA-ICDR, JAMS, FedArb and ad hoc arbitrations.
