Biography

Elaine Caprio is President of Caprio Consulting And Coaching LLC, providing mediation and arbitration services for property, casualty and life insurance and reinsurance disputes.

Before forming Caprio Consulting, Ms. Caprio worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance ("Liberty") for 25 years in various executive roles. She was an officer of three property and casualty companies, and a subsidiary branch life company. As Vice President and Manager of Ceded Reinsurance, she was responsible for purchasing reinsurance protection, managing internal reinsurance for property, casualty and life reinsurance treaties, controlling credit risk, and optimizing global reinsurer and broker relationships. Ms. Caprio produced significant savings in reinsurance premiums, negotiated best-in-class treaties, broker contracts, indemnity catastrophe bonds and swaps, and carefully managed enterprise-wide reinsurer participations.

Prior to her Ceded Reinsurance role, Ms. Caprio held the role of Senior Corporate Counsel at Liberty, and advised departments worldwide that handled ceded and/or assumed facultative, treaty and retrocessional reinsurance matters. She successfully negotiated commutation agreements, and obtained significant collateral for recoverables, in addition to achieving millions of dollars of disputed reinsurance collections.

Because of her proficiency with operational restructuring, Ms. Caprio was selected to serve as Vice President and Manager of Corporate Procurement for Liberty, charged with developing a strategy to coordinate the management of billions of spend. She transformed strategic sourcing and supplier management at Liberty by forming and guiding a new management team, creating corporate governance, a new branding and marketing strategy, and co-creating a procurement data repository for planning and analysis.

Ms. Caprio served on the Board of Directors for ARIAS-U.S. from 2005 to 2012, and was Chairman from 2011 to 2012 and the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts from 2017 to 2018. From 2015 to 2018, Elaine has served on the Advisory Board for Business Insurance Women to Watch.
